The Fairwinds Community Association asked city councillor Shad Qadri to comment re: “no parking” signs recently installed on Maple Grove Road. Here’s his response:
The No Parking signs on the North side of Maple Grove Road were in place prior to the recent upgrade road construction. They were installed on north side originally as there were ditches along this section of Maple Grove Road that were considered a safety issue. During the road construction the no parking signs were removed. Now that the road construction is complete the signs were re-installed. As such, no warnings would have been done prior to re-installing those signs.
However, now with the recent upgrades done to Maple Grove Road, those ditches no longer exist. I have asked Traffic staff to please review the area to see if the signs are still needed for safety reasons and sight line concerns for motorists on the north side of Maple Grove Road. Once I have their review I will let residents know in my weekly column.
However, someone other than a City of Ottawa employee, took it upon themselves to post No Parking signs on the south side of Maple Grove Road. These signs were not installed by City of Ottawa staff and should never have been posted there. Please be assured Traffic Specialist staff were alerted to this to follow up. The No Parking signs on the south side of Maple Grove that were placed along the white fence in front of the model homes have been removed.
You are allowed to park on the south side of Maple Grove Road. However, that being said, this may be an optimum time to advise the parking regulations in effect in Stittsville as well as the entire City of Ottawa. Where parking signs are in place or not the City of Ottawa does have a 3 hour on street parking regulation.
I can advise you that the Stittsville area does not have a specific Traffic Enforcement By-Law officer assigned here. However, they are dispatched only if a complaint is received from a concerned resident witnessing a parking infraction. This is most likely the reason why you received your ticket. I hope this explains why your vehicle received this ticket.
I am providing the link below goes into more in-depth detail on these parking regulations found on the City’s website, located at http://ottawa.ca/en/residents/
transportation-and-parking/ parking/street-parking- restrictions. Hopefully this will assist in avoiding a ticket in future. I do publish this information several times a year via my weekly electronic column to all on my e-mail distribution list, as well as in my weekly column in The Stittsville News, and on my website as all residents should be familiar with the parking regulations in place. I have added your contact information into my contacts and e-mail distribution list. This will give me the opportunity to provide you with future correspondence of interest to your community as well as my previously mentioned electronics weekly column. I also invite you to visit my website, located at www.shadqadri.com
I hope the information above is helpful in avoiding any future tickets.
