In an update provided to the Stittsville Village Association this week, City Councillor Shad Qadri indicated that the installation of traffic lights at Huntmar & Maple Grove may not be in place until early July. Qadri had said earlier this spring that they would be in place by end of June.
- The design work to install the temporary traffic signal (without implementing geometric modification) has been completed.
- Our traffic operations staff is in the process of tendering standing offer contract to implement the work.
- The estimated timeline that the temporary signal will be installed at this location is by end of June or early July.
He also gave an update about the future connection of Maple Grove to Stittsville Main Street:
Staff supports the extension of Maple Grove through to Stittsville Main once the intersection of Huntmar and Maple Grove is signalized and auxiliary turn lanes are added. Currently the signalization of Huntmar and Maple Grove with auxiliary turn lanes is planned for 2016 or 2017 depending on funding.
The challenge will continue to be to acquire the source of funding for this either through the budgeting process or by connecting to development, as there are currently no outstanding commitments from the adjacent landowners to connect this with. Riley Carter has continued to track this possibility and look for opportunities to secure this via development application.
