Here’s a note we received from an Arcadia resident about a letter the Fairwinds Community Association wrote regarding pedestrian safety and the Huntmar Bridge. Arcadia is the Minto neighbourhood across the street from Tanger Outlets, north of the Queensway. (We’re publishing the letter anonymously at the request of the writer.)
I am a resident of the Kanata Arcadia community, and I strongly feel the same. I myself have been warned by a police office after they started enforcing pedestrians to not cross the Huntmar bridge, and that it would be a $175 fine to simply cross one way over the bridge.
Before this law was enforced I was able to cross to go to hockey games, or concerts and not have the worry of having a drink. I would see this as a safer alternate for people then drinking and driving since it is against the law. Now we cannot. I have also seen countless people cross the bridge during the day from the Tanger Outlet mall, and it bothers me to see this, since I was warned and almost fined and these people are getting away with it. Where is the police when we need them?
I would be for one of the two proposals as mentioned in this letter, and I am sure other people of my community would also be on board.
