On November 9, the City of Ottawa’s Built Heritage Sub-Committee will consider motions on two buildings in our neighbourhood: the old stone Boyd House at 173 Huntmar (just north of Fairwinds) and the Bradley-Craig barn on Hazeldean Road. We wrote the following letter to the committee members.

Re: 173 Huntmar and 590 Hazeldean Road / November 9 Built Heritage Subcommittee
The Fairwinds Community Association (Stittsville) would like to express our support for the staff recommendations regarding Boyd House at 173 Huntmar and Bradley-Craig barn at 590 Hazeldean Road. We consider both buildings part of our neighbourhood.
173 Huntmar: We support the staff recommendation to provide full heritage designation for Boyd House. We hope that heritage designation will provide additional protection and encourage the owner to take additional steps to secure and maintain the house.
590 Hazeldean Road: We support the staff recommendation to deny the demolition permit for the Bradley-Craig barn. The barn has been — and continues to be — a landmark in our community for over 140 years. Whether it’s surrounded by farmland or strip malls, it is still an important piece of our heritage and enhances the character of our community.
