Summer just ended and Fall has just arrived. Nobody wants to think about winter just yet. However, before we know it the snow will be flying and with it, it will bring a whole slew of problems, including parking concerns in our neighbourhood. Last year the City piloted winter parking restrictions in our community. In order to provide meaningful and representative feedback to the City on the winter parking restrictions, the Fairwinds Poole Creek Community Association surveyed residents to determine if they felt the parking restrictions made our streets safer and easier to navigate in the winter months. In addition, the Association asked residents to identify streets that they felt should have winter restrictions added or removed.
Overwhelmingly, residents responded that they felt that the winter parking restrictions made our streets safer and easier to navigate. Residents identified a few streets where the restrictions were confusing and/or would be better placed on the other side of the road, and a few streets that should/shouldn’t have restrictions. The Community Association provided all feedback received to the City for their consideration. The City is still looking at all feedback received, however, our city councillor, Shad Qadri, has confirmed that the streets in our community that had restrictions last winter will continue to have restrictions this winter. In addition, restrictions will be added for Rosehill and Santolina. The Community Association will continue to follow up with the City on winter parking restrictions and will provide updates through social media and future newsletters.
