On the agenda:
There is also a good comparison of the previous plan and the current plan available at StittsvilleCentral.ca
Community Police Officer Kevin Williams recently reached out to local community associations on the issue of vehicle thefts and asked us to share this information with residents.
“It has been brought to my attention that there are concerns about an increase in thefts from vehicles in the Stittsville area over the last few months. A review of reported incidents to the Ottawa Police Service from September 1, 2017 to November 30, 2017 indicates that there have only been 6 reported thefts from vehicles incidents in the Stittsville area. Two of these incidents occurred in the month of November. It may be possible that theft from vehicle incidents in the area are not being reported to police.
“I was hoping that all Stittsville Community Associations can assist the Ottawa Police Service in sending out a message to residents in the area encouraging them to report crimes and suspicious activity to the police. Reporting incidents to the police is important and provides us with the information needed to identify crime patterns and assists us in addressing crime in the community.”
To report a vehicle theft or any other incidents: visit the Ottawa Police “Contact Us” web page at ottawapolice.ca. Many reports can be made online.
You should also check out this Ottawa Police resource page with tips on how to decrease opportunity for criminals and safeguard your vehicle.

Once again, I would like to invite all residents to an open house regarding the Kanata Light Rail Transit (LRT) Environmental Assessment (EA) Study on Thursday, December 7th at the Kanata Recreation Complex (Hall A, 100 Charlie Rogers Pl). Another open house took place earlier this year on June 5th to discuss potential options regarding the future of the LRT extension from Moodie to Palladium through Kanata; for a recap of what was discussed, please visit my website here.
Extending LRT to Kanata is identified in the Ultimate Network in the City’s 2013 Transportation Master Plan (TMP). At the previous Public Open House, the City presented the evaluation of alternative corridors and identified a preliminary preferred corridor.
To date, the Study Team has finalized the recommended corridor, and at this open house will present design details on the recommended plan, station locations and concept designs, and the requirement for a light maintenance and storage facility.
The Environmental Assessment portion of the study will be undertaken in accordance with the Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP) as prescribed in Ontario Regulation 231/08, Transit Projects. The City must consider alternative corridors and designs for the project, undertake public and agency consultation, assess the potential environmental effects of the Recommended Plan and identify measures to mitigate any such impacts.
I highly encourage all residents to attend this important open house and share their comments as the LRT will play a huge role in the future of Ottawa transit. Comments received will be collected under TPAP, and with the exception of personal information, will become part of the public record. To provide your comments, please contact Senior Project Engineer, Angela Taylor, by email at Angela.Taylor@ottawa.ca or by phone by calling 613-580-2424 Ext. 15210

A public meeting is being held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 with an open house at 6:30 pm with a presentation 7:00 pm at the Goulbourn Recreation Complex (Hall A), located at 1500 Shea Road
The public meeting is regarding a proposed plan of subdivision by Shenkman/Cavanagh for the property at 195 Huntmar Drive, which is located west of Huntmar Drive and south of Highway 417 as shown on the Location Map (File No.: D07-16-16-0011).
The Plan of Subdivision proposes the development of approximately 1120 detached, townhouse, stacked townhouse, and low-rise apartment residential units. The subdivision also includes blocks for commercial development to accommodate a range of small scale retail, restaurant, and service commercial uses and automobile dealerships. A secondary school (OCDSB) and parks, including the Kanata West District Park, are also proposed.
For additional information you can visit my website here. Please note that in the future a revised Draft Plan of Subdivision will be available on my website and on www.ottawa.ca/devapps .

Thanks to everyone who came out to today’s grand opening of the “Rosehill Expressway”. With the closure of Johnwoods scheduled to happen on Wednesday, this was our tongue-in-cheek celebration to mark the opening of Rosehill to traffic – and with it, an influx of vehicles onto local streets like Rosehill, Santolina, Warmstone, Alon, Mika and others.
If you haven’t signed the traffic safety petition yet, email us at info@fairwindscommunity.com. (Our neighbour Mike is taking the signed petition to City Hall on Tuesday.)
Also, thank you to our neighbours in Bryanston Gate Community Neighbours and the many volunteers who helped with today’s event and the petition signing this week.
Here’s some media coverage of the event so far:
Join your neighbours from Fairwinds, Bryanston Gate and Poole Creek this Sunday (November 12) at noon for a “celebration” of sorts, to mark the upcoming opening of the Rosehill Expressway. Bring your kids and meet at the corner of Johnwoods and Rosehill. We’ll have free hot chocolate & more surprises. Also watch for volunteers in the community this week who will be knocking on doors with a petition to sign.
